The kidney is the organ that is located near the central part of the back, just below the rib cage. Just like other parts of the body, kidney function is not less important.
The kidney consists of a pair of organs, i.e. left and right kidney kidney. Each kidney, measuring about 10-12 cm or as big as fists, and contains approximately one million nefron, namely blood filters that are very small. There are a variety of kidney function that has an important role for the health of the body.
Kidney function
A variety of kidney function include some things below:
- Filter the blood. All the blood in the body passes through the kidneys several times a day. When the kidneys filter blood, urine will be created from the remaining substance and excess fluid in the body. Urine is then streamed through the ureters to the bladder was then brought to and disposed of as urine.
- Filter and get rid of waste such as toxins, excess salt, and urea (wastes containingnitrogen are produced when the finished cell metabolism). Urea that is formed in the liver is transported through the blood to the kidneys to be later discarded. Without kidneys, wastes and toxins will accumulate in the blood.
- Monitor and control the balance of water in the body, as well as ensure that the tissues of the body receive enough water to work properly. The kidneys react to changes in the level of water in the body throughout the day. This is because the kidney is the key in solving chemistry urinalysis. When water intake in the body decreases, this kidney function will conform to initiate storing water that remains in the body, rather than throw it away.
- Regulates blood pressure and salt levels in the blood. How, by producing the enzyme renin. The kidneys require a steady or constant pressure to be able to filter theblood.
- Set the red blood cells. When the kidneys are not getting enough oxygen, the kidneys will secrete erythropoietin hormone, that stimulates hormones of bone marrow to produce more red blood cells the oxygen carrier.
- Regulate the acid-alkaline balance (pH) of the blood and body fluids. Kidney function that this one is needed so that the body can function normally. Acid in the body can be increased or even neutralized because of the food we consume.
- Keep the concentration of minerals, such as sodium, potassium, and phosphorus in the blood.
- Produce an active form of vitamin D is needed for bone health and for the balance of chemicals in the body.
So the importance of the role of the kidneys in the body, then it must be if both kidneys are kept his health in order to always be able to function properly. Though people can live healthy and normal with just one kidney, have two healthy kidneysnaturally better.
Maintaining health and kidney function can be done by keeping blood pressure and cholesterol, eating foods low in salt, eat more fruits and vegetables, exercising diligently, often drinking water until clear-colored urine, do not smoke, do not consume too much alcohol, and maintaining ideal body weight.
